Greetings Post 67 Members and friends,
NOTE: As we approach Juneteenth observed on Wed, 19 June as a federal holiday. “Officially Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States. It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. Also called: Jubilee Day, Emancipation Day (Texas), Freedom Day and Black Independence Day. Passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified on December 6, 1865, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery in the United States. Juneteenth honors the date, June 19, 1865, when the last Confederate community of enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas, received word that they had been freed from bondage.” Celebrate however you may but remember the good men and women that paved the way.
